JKHS Gold Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition; July 2nd to 6th 2012


56 miles across mid-Wales from the border at Womaston (near Kington) to Devil's Bridge. Quite a dramatic adventure this year! The weather was pretty dreadful with cloud and rain every day except Thursday, which was a welcome respite. One of the group had to drop out on Wednesday morning after an insect bite on Tuesday triggered a severe reaction to the grass in the meadows crossed north of Llandrindod Wells. The group opted to sleep rough in the barn at Rhiwnant on Wednesday night. Two members of the group were struggling to make progress after descending to Cwmystwyth as the weather closed in on Friday morning.
