On the Black Hill walk: Sunday 17th June 2012

This was my first of two walks for the Herefordshire Walking Festival. Only four walkers at the Bull's Head for the start and another lady who kindly came to let me know that she'd not be joining us because she'd had enough of wet walking the day before; I was able to direct her on a scenic route back to her B&B in Glasbury via Pandy, Llanthony, Capel-y-Ffin and the Gospel Pass. After a drizzly start the rain stopped and the visibility was good - on Black Hill summit I was convinced that I could see Cadair Idris, 60 miles away on a bearing of about 350 degrees. Pauline Goodwin passed us at lunchtime, going in the other direction with group of walkers to Craswall and on to White Haywood Farm for dinner. The lower section of our walk - along the Monnow Valley Walk from the Black Hill picnic site to the Bull's Head - was extremely wet and muddy after the dreadfully wet weather

This is our group on the summit of the Black Hill.
