Edgelands walk: Sunday, 3rd June 2012

The pouring rain did not deter about 9 hardy souls who met Dave Bennett and me at the Clock Tower in Hay at 14.00. The walk was my first that links to the book Edgelands, a celebration of England's urban-rural fringes and it was one of 5 walks that Dave set up during the Hay Festival as 'tasters' for the Hay Walking Festival this autumn; the walks were 'trailed' in a Telegraph article. Highlights included wire, pallets, the sewage works, lights, under-bridge graffiti, the old railway trackbed, allotments, cars, industrial estates and desire paths. The walk was well received and I hope to repeat it in this and other contexts.

We finished back in the town centre before 16.00.
